What this site is for
Sunshine and Fresh Air helps homeowners and renters in the US and Australia make practical, lower-impact choices at home without the guilt. We focus on four things:
- Cleaner indoor air: purifiers, filters, humidifiers and monitors, and what to do in smoke season.
- Power you can count on: portable power stations and simple home resilience.
- Gear that lasts: outdoor and household things worth buying once, and repairing.
- Low-waste swaps: changes that genuinely cut what you throw away.
We are not a finance site and don’t cover green investing or corporate ESG ratings.
Who writes it
The site is written and edited by our editors. We don’t publish personal reviews or “we tested” claims unless we have actually used the product, and we say so plainly when we haven’t.
How we stay honest
- We explain how things work first. Understanding CADR, watt-hours or “industrial compostable” helps you more than a top-10 list.
- We quote brand claims as the brand’s. Environmental claims are attributed to the company making them, with a link to their evidence where it exists.
- We follow the rules on green claims. Our method draws on the US FTC’s Green Guides (16 CFR Part 260) and the ACCC’s guidance on environmental claims in Australia. See How we judge green claims.
- We don’t make health claims. For air quality we say what a device filters, and we point to government sources such as the US EPA, AirNow and Australian state health departments for health advice.
- We don’t invent prices or deals. Prices change constantly. If we mention one, we show the date we checked it and where.
How the site is funded
Some links are affiliate links, mainly through the Amazon Associates program. If you buy through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Commissions never decide what we recommend, and we’ll tell you when a product we mention is one we can earn from. Details: Affiliate disclosure.
